Good to know about phonics books

What is a phonics reader?

A tiny decodable story of about 40 story words over 8 pages. Each one practices a single vowel pattern or consonant blend, using words your child can sound out, plus a few common sight words.

What age are phonics readers for?

Ages 3 to 5. Phonics readers come just before Level 1, for children starting to sound out words. When your child is ready for longer stories, Level 1 picture books are the next step.

Are phonics readers read aloud?

Yes. In Wonder Teller a reading voice narrates each page while each sentence lights up, so eyes and ears stay together. The free sneak peek shows the pages without sound.

Can we read phonics books for free?

Every book opens with a free sneak peek of its first pages, no account needed. A free Wonder Teller account, with no card required, reads every Free-trial book in full. Basic and Premium plans unlock more of the library, and Premium unlocks every book.
